Party Time With Dinah Cancer (& Moheak Set List)

Goth legend Dinah Cancer was our guest last week on our Moheak Radio show, LinA In LA, and — in what we hope will be a regular feature on our shows — we gave tickets away to her 50th Birthday bash and Vampire Ball at Bar Sinister. Winner had to answer this trivia question concerning her illustrious career: what was the first movie the LA singer first appeared in?

The answer was the seminal punk rock doc, Decline of the Western Civilization, and it was well before Mary (her real name) was a front woman. In fact, she was a “Germ-ette” aka Germs groupie or shall we say Germ-friend (drummer Don Bolles was her BF). Both Mary and Don (who also slapped skins for 45 Grave with Cancer) admitted a lot of their band’s more aggressive tunes were inspired by Bolles less than best behavior as a boyfriend, namely “You’re Evil.”

Other stuff covered in our revealing Moheak interview? How she got into “death rock” (two words Christopher Lee), your truly’s connection with the singer (we worked the same store on Melrose) and her new material’s genre-blending. Sign up for Justin.tv and you can view the entire interview highlighted here.

For those who missed the Vampire Ball, enjoy this smattering of shots from the bash. They’re bloody good if we do say so ourselves. Our Moheak set-list at the bottom of this post… Happy Birthday Dinah!
