We don’t actually watch X Factor, but we planned to start when we heard that local singer Christa Collins had made it to the top 32. Sorry Simon Cowell, but looks like we’ll be X-ing out that idea now…We’ve been a fan of the raven-haired rocker for a few years now and it was no surprise to us that she did well on the TV talent show. Christa’s got the whole package: looks, voice and an inspiring backstory involving child stardom, Disney and a deceased parent.
Unfortunately, she was cast off this week, and by all accounts we’ve read online, in favor of a guy whose talent did not match her own. Collins’ cover of Radiohead’s “No Surprises” definitely seemed to touch Enrique Iglesias. Many speculate the choice — made by Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger– had more to do with more dramatic storyline possibilities (the guy chosen from Collins’ group has dealt with homelessness).
Regardless, the appearance was great exposure for Collins and her band Woolly Bandits. We highly suggest checking the group out this Saturday at El Cid, where according to Collins’ Facebook fan page, she’ll be debuting new material. Presented by The Bullet, the groovy stompfest will also feature The Love Me Nots, Mad Christian and Mod Dylan (featuring original Untouchables member/guitarist/songwriter Clyde “City Gent” Grimes).
Get tickets here & check out the Bandits’ performance on our Moheak Radio this past Summer.
